Collapsible Core

1. What is Collapsible Core

Collapsible core is a new type of mold structure that is widely used in injection molding and die-casting processes for demoulding products with undercuts, internal threads or complex through holes. It uses built-in multi-segment movable core segments that shrink inward during ejection to easily release the finished product, avoiding the cumbersome structure of traditional ejector pins or cylinder dethreading devices.

2. The main advantages of Collapsible Core

Compared with traditional cylinder-type threading machines, collapsible core has the following significant advantages:

1. Simple structure, easy to manufacture and maintain

2. It occupies little space and the overall layout of the mold is more compact.

3. Reduce mold costs and save material and processing costs

4. Can shorten the production cycle by more than 40% and improve production efficiency

3. Specifications and optional segments

Collapsible core adopts dynamic segmentation design, usually with 6-segment, 8-segment or 12-segment modes:

- Minimum applicable diameter: 6 mm

- Maximum applicable diameter: 400 mm

- The more segments, the closer the core shape is to a circle after shrinkage, which is suitable for deeper and narrower threads or undercut structures

Users can flexibly select the number of segments according to the length, depth and thread specifications of the product to ensure smooth demoulding without damaging the inner wall of the finished product.

• Household appliances: power plugs, threaded holes in switch panels

• Auto parts: lamp holders, oil pan internal threads

5. Design and installation suggestions

1. Cooperate with the mold design: When designing the parting surface and gating system, reserve sufficient ejection stroke and space.  

2. Surface treatment: It is recommended to nitride, fluoride or chrome plating the core section to improve wear resistance and service life.  

3. Mold trial optimization: During the first mold trial, adjust the ejector stroke, ejection speed and mold temperature to ensure smooth demoulding.
